A SAXONY MINER'S GUILD AXE, DATED 1678 with flat iron head of characteristic form pierced with a slipped quatrefoil and circles, and fitted with a brass button on the spike, fruitwood haft profusely inlaid over its full length with engraved bone plaques of flowers and foliage including a pair of miners kneeling in penance at the feet of Christ Crucified beneath the inscription 'INRI', named to a bone plaque Samvel Stevdel, with carved bone butt, overall lenth 84cm long.
